Kauai is the oldest of the Hawaiian islands and the first to be settled, although exactly when and by who is subject to debate; what is not is that Kauai is an island of stunning beauty. We spent our week in Kauai at the excellent  Hanalei Bay Resort. The variety of things to see and do on Kauai is mind boggling, but there are some real musts. Take a helicopter ride over Waimea Canyon and the Ne Pali coast, hike the Kalalau Trail, play the Prince Golf Course at Princeville, watch the sunset over Bali Hai from the Makana Terrace of the St. Regis Princeville Hotel and visit the amazing bird colonies at  Kilaulea Point National Wildlife Reserve where the crashing waves are awesome. The ‘Garden Isle’ is a place we intend to revisit every possible chance we get.
