Upper Saint John Valley & Mt. Carleton - The Maritime Explorer

Upper Saint John Valley & Mt. Carleton

The Upper Saint John valley is often overlooked as a place to golf, enjoy fine dining and generally relax. It is all three as we discovered in a trip that resulted in this Saltscapes story. The trip started in Edmunston where we toured the New Brunswick Botanical Garden with its amazing topiary and flower sculptures, played golf at the very underrated Club de Golf Fraser and enjoyed our stay and dinner at the Auberge Les Jardins Inn. The next day we detoured inland to climb Mt. Carleton, the highest point in New Brunswick. It was no easy feat, but the views from the top were worth it.

The Aroostook Valley Golf Club is unique in that it straddles the Canada/US border and there are international boundary markers right on some holes. It’s also a very pretty course with lots of elevation change and interesting cedar forest. Perth-Andover’s  Castle Inn  is one of the most unique places to stay in New Brunswick and has a great restaurant.
