Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees Hall of Famers
This is a pre-trip post on the 2014 RV trip that my son Dale and I are planning in the Waterloo region of southern Ontario which we will start tomorrow. Our plan was to meet my daughter Lenore who lives in Toronto and then go out to dinner, but on checking the Toronto Blue Jays […]

Oak Island with the Masons and the Lagina Brothers
Ever since I was a young boy I have been fascinated with pirates and in particular Captain Kidd and his connection to Nova Scotia’s Oak Island. I can date this fascination exactly, as it started with a box of cereal. In the late 1950’s or early 1960’s Shreddies, (my favourite cereal after Sugar Pops which […]

The Bike and Bean – Cycling from Halifax to Tantallon
After our trip to Holland in the spring I became re-energized about cycling and decided to get serious about it. The first step was to buy a new bike, but after a visit to Cyclesmith, Halifax’s best known bike shop, I was a bit dismayed at the cost – $1700 plus tax for a good […]

Three Sisters – Two Ways to Visit These Amazing Sea Stacks
Cape Chignecto Provincial Park is the largest and wildest in the Nova Scotia park system. Since then I have created separate posts on Brudenell River and Dundarave, so have pared this post down to just Crowbush Cove. Here’s why I have come to appreciate […]

Laval – Finding a Rose Among the Thorns of Montreal’s Sister City
What you might ask what am I doing in Laval, Quebec, a city so overlooked that Mississauga looks famous in comparison? Golf fans will know that the RBC Canadian Open is being played this week in Montreal. That being the case the Golf Journalists Association of Canada holds its annual meeting and golf tournament in the […]

RBC Canada Cup – A Great Event at My Home Course
As a member of the Golf Journalists Association of Canada or GeeJack as most of us call it, I get to hang around with people who actually know how to write about golf and even some who can really play the game. We also get this snazzy little card with Mr. Golf Ball as our […]

Winnipeg – An Early Morning Walking Tour and History Lesson
When I’m travelling I always try to get up at first light to see if there is going to a ‘magic hour’. This is the brief period of time in the very early morning and late dusk that creates the best light conditions for photographs. It took three days, but on the third morning in […]
